The Law Of Attraction – What It Really Is And Is Not

It is somewhat amazing to see how much talk there is about the Law of Attraction and how few people actually know about what it is. The Law of Attraction is not a spell that you use and things begin happening that way. It is not that you chant “like begets like” a thousand times a day and see things happening the way you want. If the Law of Attraction were so simple, we would have already witnessed the world as a much better place by now.

People explain the Law of Attraction in various ways. The commonest definition you will find will be something like this:-

“If you strongly believe that something should happen, it will certainly happen.”

A sentence couldn’t be any simpler, but you will immediately realize that this raises more questions than it answers. The question of desires is the most important. Is it only what we desire and think about strongly that will happen? Or will things that we don’t desire also happen if we somehow think strongly about them? Then there is also the question of internal conflict of thoughts. At times, there could be situations where we think equally in both ways. For example, we may think that a job could be ours or not. So how do we apply the Law of Attraction in such a case? Or what do we do when we are thinking strongly about something and someone else is thinking strongly about the exact opposite thing? What will happen in that case?

In order to be able to reply all these questions, it is important to first understand what the Law of Attraction really says.

Notwithstanding the various ways in which the Law of Attraction has been defined, we can break things down in the following four elements:-

We must know exactly what we want.

We must begin a thought process for it, and begin vociferously asking the universe to make it happen.

We must then visualize a situation wherein we already have what we are hankering for, and we must live in that reality.

At the same time, we must not attach ourselves to what might happen. We must only think about having it. There is no room for apprehension.
Objective and Subjective Thinking

One of the main steps toward understanding the Law of Attraction to a greater degree is to understand what the word “thought” really means. Throughout the description of this law, you will find that it doesn’t refer to thinking in the way that we do. We think that we exist, we are in a particular situation, there are certain people with and around us, there are things we are with and so on. Whatever we see becomes real for us, and that becomes a part of our thought. However, this is not the kind of thought process that the Law of Attraction talks about. This is known as objective thinking.

But, in order to see the implementation of the Law of Attraction in our lives, we have to first shun the concept of objective thinking. We have to adopt a higher level of thinking, which is subjective thinking.

Why do we think that our spouse is real? Because we can see them. But this is objective thinking.

With subjective thinking, things will be the other way round. We think our spouse is real and therefore we see them. Now, that is subjective thinking.

Your job isn’t real. But because you believe so concretely that it is real, it becomes a reality for you.

Your situations aren’t real. However, your firm belief that they are happening makes them real for you.

This is the realm of subjective thinking. When you think subjectively, things are more or less like how you are seeing a dream. When we see a dream, how do we picture ourselves? Is our “dream” self the real us? No, we are the ones who are “seeing” the dream. We are just the frame of reference, the consciousness. Whatever is happening in our dream is our perspective. That is how thinking works in the subjective world.

In this world, what we see is actually just a manifestation of our thoughts. Now, that doesn’t mean those things aren’t real. What that means is that those things are present in our consciousness. Just as we might be able to alter things in our dreams, by applying the Law of Attraction, we could alter things in our “real” life as well.

The Long And Winding Road

wroad

Consider your thoughts a road.  Most people travel the road that everyone else is traveling.  There is no unique thought or idea.

Picture a cloudy day.  The land is cracked and barren.  There are no trees, no grass, no flowers.  Everything is gray.  Yet there is life, a lot of it.  Thousands and thousands of people are traveling a long and winding road winding aimlessly through miles of this wasted land.   There are so many people on this road there is hardly any room on the road.  They are side by side.  They are in front of each other.  They are behind each other.  They are all aimlessly walking down the road all going in the same direction.  They all think the other person knows where they are going but they don’t.  In reality they are going nowhere.

But there is an end to the road and when the road ends so do they.  Their life is over.

But if you look closely you can see small forks in the road.  Exits off the road.  But very few veer off the road, for it is not safe to do so.

Although it has been said that the exits lead to incredible places, paradises, places where your dreams and wishes are granted, it is foolish to try and get there because most won’t make it.  A few will but chances are you will not.  This talk of dreams and wishes, it’s probably not true anyway.  Besides the road they are on will get better won’t it?  It has to.

If you do decide to leave the road you had better make sure you know exactly what you are doing.  You had better make sure you are prepared.  Because if you are not you will meet with a terrible fate from which there is no return.

If you look closely you can see a man eyeing one of the exits.  He so desperately wants to take the exit.  He truly believes it will lead to something better.  He has given this a lot of thought.  He is going to take the exit.  He has prepared himself for what will come.

At least he thinks he has.  He is now at the exit.  Fear sets in.  Maybe he should just stay on the road he is on.  It’s not too bad after all.  He is not sure he is ready.  Maybe he hasn’t done enough preparation.  He wants to make sure he does it right.  He wants to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will get to his destination, that he will get what he wants.

Maybe it would be better to wait for the next exit, to make sure he is really prepared.  Yes, he convinces himself, waiting is the smart thing to do.  He will take the next exit.

He passes the exit by and continues down the winding road.

The road ends.  It is over.

The One Can Be You

Life is change.

Not one thing remains the same.

Time is going to change everyone.  But the question is, “How are we going to change?”

We can either be changed by our spirit or changed by our ego.

Most of the world is under the influence of their ego.

We are a civilization that has made incredible technological advances but as far as advancing our spirit we are still a very primitive society.

Many still believe in a God who demands sacrifices and punishment.

Is it any wonder our society is still rampant with war, crime and prejudice?  Most still believe in the survival of the fittest.

Can we change our society?

Yes we can!

The solution is that we must first change ourselves. Find God within our selves.  A god who believes in unconditional love and who will not damn you for all eternity just because you made a mistake while you were trying to learn how this life works.

Find the change within yourself.

Most people are unwilling to admit a change needs to be made within them.  But they are still going to be changed.  Unfortunately they will be changed by forces not of their choosing.   Their change could have been a change of choice, a change of their own creation but now they are going to be changed by a society which has lost its way and they too are going to find themselves lost and forever searching.

They are going to be forever searching because they are constantly looking outward and not inward.

When you begin to still your mind and control your ego you will see a world that very few know exist.  You will be transformed.  Then you can help others.

The amazing thing is it only takes a few to make an incredible impact upon the world.  There is no reason you can’t be a part of the few.

Sometimes it only takes one.  There is no reason that one can’t be you.

How To Create Miracles

Beautiful planet

When we begin looking from within first, our entire perception of the world changes.  You start to see a whole new world again and this time it is much clearer.  You see things differently.  You hear things differently.  Most importantly, you feel things differently. It is an amazing experience.

Things start to make sense that didn’t before.  You feel your sense of purpose.  You wonder why you never saw it before.

You begin to tame your ego.  Your ego begins to learn its place.  It is not in control.  It has to make way for spirit.

The spirit came before the ego and will continue after the ego is gone.  When the ego steps out of the way it allows the spirit to mature and there is a direct correlation between a maturing spirit and an abundant life.  You can have anything you want if you can learn to get your ego out of the way.

So many take that statement the wrong way.  Getting the ego out of the way does not mean no longer desiring things in life.  It doesn’t mean you are no longer attracted to a new pair of shoes or that exotic sports car.  Getting the ego out of the way means the ego knows its place.  To the ego not having those things becomes a reflection of you and your life.  To your spirit those things are not a reflection of you but are an experience you want to have.

You want to experience in this life what it feels like to wear those incredible shoes.  You want to experience in this life what it is like to drive that awesome car.

The more we identify with the ego the more we separate ourselves from our higher self.  Your ego can only see the physical world.  But as the ego diminishes you begin to see more and more of the spiritual world.  As you see more and more of the spiritual world you begin to understand that the rules of the physical world do not have a large hold on you.  To see the spiritual world is to be able to create miracles.

So how do you get the ego out of the way and create miracles?

Know that the ego is not you.  You are that which is observing your ego.

Don’t fight against the ego and the emotions you are feeling.  Experience them.  Let them run their course.

The more you do this the more you will be able to control your emotions and not react to them.  As you learn to control your emotions you will discover that you use your emotions to create your world.

This is when your ego is actually beneficial.  Your ego will tell you want you want to experience.  To have that experience, picture what you want and add feel good emotion.  Do this just a few minutes a day.  It is that simple.

You can create miracles. Don’t ever think for a moment that you can not.

It Is Not A Journey Of Belief And Faith But One Of Experience

Most don’t question why they believe what they believe.  They do not want to put their beliefs to the test.  When evaluating their beliefs they only accept what they think confirms their belief to be true.  Any evidence to the contrary is quickly dismissed.  They come at their beliefs with the presumption that I am right and there is nothing that is going to prove me wrong.  And when they find something which conflicts with their belief and they can’t explain why, the problem lies not in the belief but in their inability to come up with a satisfactory answer.  For in their mind, since the belief is “correct”, there is an explanation, they just can’t explain why. They are fine with putting their failure on the limitations of their mind because that allows them to preserve the belief.   They very rarely approach their beliefs with an open mind and evaluate using the premise that they just may be wrong.

A true spiritual path is one of constantly searching our inner self.  We need to always be questioning our assumptions and conclusions.  We need know that many of our beliefs are just not correct.  Humans are just new born babes in this universe.  We are just beginning to learn.  And just like a baby we know very little about the world we are in and we are going to make a lot of mistakes.

Questioning may be very hard to do at first. But once you begin you will start a journey that will forever change how you view the world.  You will truly begin to live a blessed life.

This is a journey within yourself which is very contrary to what most religions teach. Most religions focus on an outward, jealous and vengeful god who wants to punish us for our transgressions.

The inward journey is one of unconditional love.  Mistakes are to be expected.  No matter how bad the mistake you will never be eternally punished.  The thought that a loving god would actually inflict pain becomes incomprehensible.

There is no judgment from God.  The only judgment comes from others and that is ego based and therefore doesn’t matter.

You will discover that we are all one.  We are all a part of God.  We are all part of an interactive universe, a single consciousness that gives us all incredible power that we have yet to even begin to understand.

What we discover is that life is not a journey of belief and faith but one of experience.

Words Are Inadequate

You can never perfectly communicate anything to another individual.

Consider an event in your life.  Anything you experience is first filtered through your beliefs, your world view, the way you were raised as a child, everything which makes you… you.

Then unfortunately after an event goes through your filter, communicating this event to another individual requires words and words are inadequate.

If you don’t understand another person’s words, such as if they speak another language, communication can be very difficult.

Even when you speak the same language words don’t always mean the same to you as they do another person.  Words become lost in definition.

Words stir up different feelings.  Because of a past experience one word may elicit a strong emotional response in you and yet leave another emotionless.

The words which you present to an individual to describe your experience must be translated by the individual through his or her filter, which as we mentioned, is very different from yours.

So it can be a daunting thought if you think about it.

Not one single person has the same world view, because no two people have had the exact same life experience.

Words are inadequate.  So we can never truly communicate to someone what we are thinking and even if we could it would be altered by their filter to fit their beliefs.

Consider now the futility of debating over whose religion is correct.

Because we have available to us infinite life experiences and because we can never fully communicate those experiences to another there is no way the entire world could ever come to experience one ultimate truth.

No matter what authority we claim to follow that authority is still being filtered though our world view and to expect someone to see it exactly as we do would require them to see it through our world view.  That is impossible.

Here is what so many have a hard time comprehending…

There can be more than one truth even when the truths seem contradictory.

Quantum physics tells us that light is both a particle and a wave, both matter an non-matter.

Einstein’s Theory of Relativity shows us that even time is relative and will present different truths to different observers.

When you take world’s religions and remove the dogma you often find they are saying the same thing.

Consider the four quotes below…

“The Kingdom is not coming in any way that you can observe.  The Kingdom of God is already here–within you.” – Jesus

“Those who seek to find the One without ceasing, will find the Lord dwelling in their own hearts.” – Krishna

“The Way is empty.  The Way is full.  There is no way to describe what it is.  Find it within yourselves.” – Lao Tzu

“The Way is not in the sky.  The Way is in the heart.” – Buddah

If it is all coming from within us, then how can what is coming from within me be any less true than what is coming from within you?  It can’t.

If it is all coming from within us, then how can what is coming from within you be any less real than what is coming from within me?  It can’t.

So maybe we should stop fighting over differences and start searching more and more for the similarities.  Perhaps upon seeing the similarities  we will draw closer to becoming the one that we are.  When that happens many of the worlds problems will just vanish.

Our Beliefs Were Stongly Influenced By Our Culture

(Click on the comment balloon to the right of the title above to post or read comments.)

There has always been the great debate between Christians and Atheists but I think often times a very important point is left out.

To Christians – Proving that our universe was created does not prove the Bible is correct.

To Atheists – Proving the Bible wrong does not prove there is not a god or creative source.

We have invited a lot of differing beliefs to comment on this post.

This is not a place to bash and belittle others beliefs.

This is a post to learn from the experiences of others.

Our goal is to discover why we believe what we believe.

Please read the post and let us know why you agree or disagree or both.

This is a plea, a call to become one.

We need to get a grasp on God and religion. For the most part if you were born in a European, North American culture your brain has been wired with Christianity concepts. If you live in the east, China, India you are more wired for the concepts of Buddhism, Hinduism and other eastern religions. If you live in the middle east then your brain has a lot of synapses firing with Muslim beliefs.

You may not want to admit it emotionally but you have to admit there is a lot of truth to it.

Even if you do not follow any specific type of religion you still have patterns wired in your brain, cultural influences stemming from the religion in the area in which you were born. Your media, architecture, currency are all influenced by the religion of your region.

For the most part your brain was wired when you were a child. You may think that you have come to conclusions on your own, but your brain has been conditioned to see the world in such a way that supports conclusions you have been given. Your brain is bombarded with millions of bits of data every day. To keep you from going insane you take in the data that coincides with your beliefs and discard most of the data that does not. You do this subconsciously. Most of the time you are unaware. And this is why the world seems to conform to what you believe. This is why everyone thinks their way of seeing is correct.

The problem is the majority of the world sees God as an external being, “out there”, looking down on us, judging us. God is not out there. God is “in here.” God is inside each and everyone of us.

This is why everyone thinks their religion is correct. They feel God inside of them and that feeling is strong and very real but they assume it is coming from an external source. Of course if it was coming from an external source then only one religion could be correct.

But the feeling is not coming from an external source. It is coming from within each and everyone of us. There can be no debate over whose God is correct. We are all correct.

Being in us, God is whatever we want him/her/it to be.

Where do your beliefs come from?

For the majority (yes there are exceptions) a person’s religious belief is determined by where they live. You have to see that you believe what the majority of those around you believe.  You are very similar to those around you or else visiting your neighbor would be like visiting a different country.

Does it make you pause for a moment to know that those who have different beliefs from you have just as strong a faith that their belief is correct and yours is not?  They believe just as strongly that you are incorrect as you do they are incorrect.  They are seeing a world which shows them their beliefs are correct just as you are seeing a world which shows you your beliefs are correct.

You say “The Truth” but it is impossible for you to know for sure. Deep down you understand that.

The best you can say is I have faith and that is a feeling. So respect others feelings just as much as your own. Their feelings are just as strong as yours.

Do not criticize others who do not believe as you.

They feel as passionate about what they believe as you do.

Everyone has an infinite amount of experiences available. It would therefore be impossible for everybody to come to one incontrovertible truth.  An omnipotent creator would know this and see the futility in demanding everyone follow one belief.  And to punish someone just because their life experiences didn’t lead them to a certain belief would be sadistic and cruel.

Never try and force a person to live your point of view.

No matter what authority you claim, it is still your point of view that accepted the authority.

And that is fine, because that is one of the reasons you are in this life.  The world needs your point of view.

Again the purpose of this post is to learn.

Please do not post negative, rude, intolerant comments.

Ok, let us know what you think. Click on the comment balloon to the right of the post title at the top of this post to leave a comment.
